The optical bonding process injects an optical-grade epoxy bond between the surface of the LCD panel and the outer protective glass, eliminating the air gap between the two. This eliminates two reflective surfaces, and drastically reduces image wash-out due to internal reflections. The outer glass surface also has an Anti-Glare coating. The net result is a dramatic reduction in unwanted reflections, and a tremendous increase in contrast ratio, making the monitor much more suitable for use in brightly lit areas and daylight outdoors. Optical bonding also provides other benefits such as increased ruggedness and durability, prevents condensation or fogging, and makes the outer glass shatter-proof.
