The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This Directive will ban the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants from 1 July 2006.

RoHS, or the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive, states that new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market as of July 1, 2006 in the European Union must limit the use of six substances:

Lead
Hexavalent chromium
Mercury
Cadmium
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs)
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)

RoHS is commonly refered to as “Green Legislation”. When electrical equipment is discarded in landfills, lead (Pb) and other hazardous substances can leach into the ground water, contaminating the water supply and causing health issues. This “Green Legislation” is designed to protect the environment.

Where are RoHS substances found in vision equipment? These substances are found in: component solder balls, solder, plastic connector housings, component leads, glass, sheet metal, cable jackets, and ink on labels.

Aegis Electronic Group, Inc has established a Corporate Environmental Policy. This policy seeks to offer the highest level of environmentally friendly products to our customers. Aegis is in the process of obtaining compliance letters from each manufacturer. These compliance letters will be made available to our customers via our website.

Aegis Electronic Group, Inc. practices a rigorous due-diligence process to ensure the integrity of its inventory. Customers can be assured that compliant and noncompliant materials are not mixed in stock locations. Aegis also tracks serial numbered product for RoHS compliance. A data trail of new stock for compliant material has been created and “high-risk” manufacturers have been consulted for independent test results to substantiate RoHS compliance.

China RoHS

The “Law of the People’s Republic of China for the Promotion of Clean Production” and the “Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Wastes”,and other related statutes, also referred to as China RoHS. are a part of Aegis Electronic Group, Inc.’s “Green” policy. Aegis will supply compliant products based on Vendor/Manufacturer-specific capabilities and customer demand.

Aegis Electronic Group, Inc. currently provides 100% EU RoHS compliant material and, whereas EU standards are applied as bench-marking, Aegis will provide the required delivery methods specified by China RoHS, i.e.; labeling and tabling of products.

Aegis Electronic Group, Inc. will rely on customers to initiate inquiries on specific products with regard to China RoHS compliance. When the request is made, Aegis will consult with the appropriate Vendor/Manufacturer about the product in question and provide the necessary documentation when available.

Aegis Electronic Group, Inc. is a Distributor/Systems Integrator and does not manufacture products. For this reason, 100% of the information will be provided by our Vendors/Manufacturers.
